Distribution
-=-=-=-=-=-=
This door may be freely distributed in its unregistered version format, it
can be used on any bbs system for a period of 60 days without registration,
when that period expires so does your permission to use the unregistered
version.
The registered version may not be distributed at all, it is for personal
use only, can not be sold, hired or lend to anyone without prior written
permission from the author of the software. When you register you are
buing the right to use the door in its current version on a specified
BBS system (you can run it on multiple nodes of the same system, BUT
NEVER on two diferent systems without permission from the author).
ShareWare & how to register the door
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
This door is ShareWare. If you want the full version (without the 6 seconds
delay and without the 31 days limit for every game) or wish to use the
unregistered version for over 60 days you must register it.
When you register the door you'll receive a new executable (latest version
available) and a keyfile with your name and bbs system name where the door
will be used.
Registration of the software also allows access to the support echomail
area (if you have a fidonet address) where your users and yourself will
have support from the author.
Registration costs depend on several factors: how you want to receive your
registered version, how fast (if using traditional mail), and the
registration site you choose (since the two provide diferent facilities).
To register with Paulo Laureano (author of the software) directly
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Pay by sending $30 US dollars (or the same amount in your own currency)
either in cash, a check drawn to a Portuguese Bank (make sure I can cash
it here), money order (usually mail companies provide the service, again
make sure I can cash it here).
This is the only European registration site, and I take registrations from
all over the world (but its much more pratical for USA and Canada users to
register with Jim Foley, see below). If for some reason the BBS is down
(I may be away from home unable to reset the computer) please route
fidonet netmail via my host system, I'll get back to you as soon as
possible, try again on a later date or in the event of you being in a
hurry try the other registration site.
Along with the check I need the following information:
- Your FULL name
- Your BBS System name
- BBS phone number(s) and/or Fidonet address (if you have one)
- Address
- How do you wish to receive the registered version:
- Fidonet (the files will be on hold on my system for your node.
It *may* also happen (not allways possible for a huge
variety of reasons):
IF YOU LIVE IN EUROPE I'll try to send them to you
attached to a netmail. If I am unable to do so I'll
send you a netmail (without the files) HOST routed,
in other words, I'll leave the netmail on your Network
coordinator system telling you what the trouble seemed
to be... I only atempt to deliver the files at my own
expense if you have a fast modem, 9600 or higher)
- Downloading (send me a password and you'll be able to login to
my system and will be able to download your registered
version. I'll use your FIRST AND LAST name for the bbs
account.
It *may* also happen (not always possible for a huge
variety of reasons):
IF YOU LIVE IN EUROPE I'll try to enter your system
using the name "Paulo Laureano" and the same password
you choosen for yourself; if all goes well I'll upload
the files myself. Again, I will only try to upload the
files if you have a 9600 baud modem or higher)
- Traditional mail (I'll send you an envelope with a 3.5 disk
containing the registered files. Allow 28 days for
delivery, less if you live in Europe)

To register with Jim Foley (USA & CANADA distribution site)
-----------------------------------------------------------
Pay by sending $30 US dollars (or the same amount in your own currency)
either in cash, a check drawn to a U.S. Bank, or money order.
Make the check or money order payable to Jim Foley if you are registering
through him.
This is the only U.S.A. & CANADA registration site and he may take
registrations from all over the world (but its much more practical
for European users to register with Paulo Laureano, see above). If for
some reason the BBS is down (he may be away from home and unable to reset
the computer) please route fidonet netmail via host system, he will get
back to you as soon as possible. Try again on a later date or if you
are in a hurry call the other registration site.
Along with the check he needs the following information:
- Your FULL name
- Your BBS System name
- BBS phone number(s) and/or Fidonet address (if you have one)
- Street Address, City, State (or Province), Country
- How do you wish to receive the registered version:
- Fidonet (the files will be on hold on his system for your node.)
It *may* also happen (not always possible for a huge
variety of reasons):
IF YOU LIVE IN THE U.S. OR CANADA he will try to send
them to you attached to a netmail. If he is unable to
do so he will send you a netmail (without the files)
HOST routed, in other words, he will leave the netmail
on your Network coordinator system telling you what
the trouble seemed to be... he only atempts to deliver
the files if you have a fast modem, 9600 bps or higher)
- Downloading (send a password and you'll be able to login to
his system and will be able to download your registered
version. He will use your FIRST AND LAST name for the
bbs account.
It *may* also happen (not always possible for a huge
variety of reasons):
IF YOU LIVE IN THE USA OR CANADA he will try to enter
your system using the name "Jim Foley" and the same
password you choosen for yourself; if all goes well he
will upload the file himself. Again, he will only try
to upload the files if you have a 9600 bps modem or
higher)

containing the registered files. Allow 28 days for
delivery, less if you live in the U.S.)

System requirements
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
A Commodore Amiga computer (Running AmigaDos 2.04 or higher) along with
any BBS package that can run CLIdoors ("cli programs" as "doors"), uses
ctrl+c when user drops carrier (C-NET, and the vast majority of BBS
packages capable of running CliDoors do this) and has around 150kb of
free memory to run the door.
How to install
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Like you install any other CLIdoor. Create a directory for UWARS, copy
the archive files (and ANSI directory) and run the CLIdoor executable
(CUWARS, or CRUWARS if you have registered this door). If you are a
registered user replace the evaluation version executable with the
registered one and place uwars.key in the game directory (all of them
if you are using multiple installations).
This door ONLY takes one parameter: the user name! Check your software
manual for the code to place at the command line to make the bbs package
pass the correct parameters to the door.
In case of problems
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
If the door does not boot properly (on previous versions it used to show
"incomplete" screens, and now does not boot at all) your bbs software is
not "passing the complete door path information" to the door, and due to
that it fails to find the ansi files. The solution is simple: edit and
install UWARS.CFG file in your "doors:" assign, containing the complete
path to the door on the first line. Check the example file. The "DOORS:"
assignment must exist in order to use the UWARS.CFG file!
If the command "R" ("read manual" command on the game menu) does not work
check if the PLAYERS.DOC is present on the game directory.
If you have other problems contact either myself or Jim Foley (or another
sysop near you that has the door installed and runs the same software. He
is likely to be more useful than either of us).
Alternative setups
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Universal Wars will allow 9 games to be running per installation. That
should be more than most boards need. However if this doors gets real
popular you can install multiple rooms/directories of Universal Wars by
using multiple paths.
DOORS:UWARS1/CUWARS <user_name_code>
DOORS:UWARS2/CUWARS <user_name_code>
etc
This would setup two rooms with 9 games each... you can do this forever
having virtually game rooms with different access levels, secret rooms
(unlisted on menus), etc. Just remember to copy the door executable, the
ANSI directory and players.doc to each directory. Universal Wars will
create the required datafiles for each instalation the first time it is
executed.
If your bbs system requires the UWARS.CFG file to be in "Doors:" (read
previous section; "In case of problems") you must copy a different config
file every time you run the door, a example of how to accomplish this is
present in the sample config file provided with this archive (the example
is for xenolink systems but it is quite easy to figure it out). If you
don't do this the door will always use the same path, the same datafiles,
meaning that you are wasting disk space... if your bbs package does not
allow you to stack two or more different bbs commands with a single menu
command you can not use this particular feature.
Xenolink example:
CMD = "U1""
{
DosCommand "copy doors:uwars01/uwars.cfg doors:"
XenolinkDoor "^8192^1^DOORS:UWARS01/XUWARS ~20"
}
The Xenolink door method displayed above allows copies the uwars.cfg to the
doors directory. This config contains the path to the executable in
DOORS:UWARS01 which is the first of two sets of 9 games in progress on
Rogue River BBS. There is also a uwars02 directory with another uwars.cfg file
in uwars02 with that path so players of the second set of 9 games can access
those.
If you let us know what the command string sequence is to allow your bbs to run
Clidoors, it will be included in this doc file as an example.
